December 2014 – Barsheem

So last month we brought you a futuristic sound for our Artist of the Month, this month we’re introducing you to a brother who reminds us of the classic soul music that a lot of our readers grew up on. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Barsheem was brought up on Motown hits and as his interest in the music grew, his sister urged him to hone his singing skills. Eventually he would take a big risk and move out to L.A. to chase his dreams and try to further his career. That ultimately led to him getting a few appearances on NBC’s “American Dreams”, as well as a role in the movie “Dreamgirls”.

Moving away from acting, Barsheem decided to start writing his own music in 2011 and over the last few years quickly developed a buzz. This year he released his first album titled “What is to be Major”. Tapping into his Motown-inspired childhood, Barsheem has put together a soulful, love album. Check out a few tracks from the album below and make sure to head over to his Bandcamp page to hear the whole thing.

The Soul Listener’s Favorites: “A Love All Mine” and “If This World Were Mine”.
